Heartbreaking news for Ben Doak and his family

Greenock Morton icon Martin Doak, the grandfather of rising Scotland and Liverpool talent Ben Doak, has passed away at the age of 60.

Martin Doak was a dedicated player who spent the majority of his career at Greenock Morton, making over 300 appearances for the club. His journey with the Cappielow side began in 1979 when he joined from Shamrock Boys Club. Three years later, at just 18, he made his first-team debut.

Unfortunately, a severe knee injury cut his playing days short in 1994, but not before he had amassed 317 games and scored 34 goals for Morton. He also had a brief loan spell with Falkirk in 1984 and spent two years in Australia playing for Adelaide Hellas from 1988 to 1990.

In a heartfelt tribute, Morton expressed their sorrow at the loss of a player they described as a club stalwart. The club’s statement read: “Greenock Morton Football Club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Martin Doak, who was an integral part of our history.”

His legacy at Morton and the impact he had on those who knew him will be fondly remembered.
