Liverpool finally makes the first signing of the summer

Liverpool are gearing up for their first acquisition under Arne Slot, but fans will have to wait another year to see goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in action at Anfield.

The Georgian international, who caught the eye during this summer’s European Championship, has reportedly agreed to join the Reds in a deal worth around £34 million. However, the 23-year-old will remain at Valencia for the upcoming La Liga season, only making his move to Merseyside next summer. Mamardashvili has been with Valencia since 2021 after rising through the ranks at Dinamo Tbilisi.

Liverpool’s current first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, is under contract until 2026, but there has been ongoing speculation about the future of his backup, Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irish international has shown his worth as a reliable deputy, particularly in Cup matches, but at 25, he is eager for more regular playing time, fueling rumors of a potential transfer.

Despite being the only Premier League club yet to secure a new signing this window, head coach Arne Slot has downplayed any concerns, suggesting that even if no further additions are made before the deadline, it shouldn’t be a major worry for the club.
