Liverpool defender close to leave the club and join Premier League rivals for $30M

Liverpool seem poised to offload another player this summer, and the reported transfer fee has left fans both surprised and impressed.

This summer’s transfer window has been relatively quiet for Liverpool, with the club yet to make a new signing, making them the only Premier League team in this position. On the other hand, several key players have already departed Anfield, including Fabio Carvalho, Thiago Alcantara, and Joel Matip.

Now, it looks like another exit is on the horizon, with reports suggesting that Sepp van den Berg is close to finalizing a move to Brentford for over £20 million. This news, first reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, has sparked considerable reaction among Liverpool supporters.

Despite van den Berg’s strong performances on loan at Bundesliga club Mainz last season, many fans seem content with the deal, particularly because of the significant fee negotiated by new sporting director Richard Hughes.

One fan expressed disbelief on X, saying, “£20M for a player I’ve never heard of? That’s insane.” Another fan drew a comparison to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s recent transfer, commenting, “How is Liverpool selling him for a higher fee than AWB? That’s crazy business.”
