James Milner breaks big Premier League record that no legend could

After securing a contract extension with Brighton this summer, former Liverpool midfielder James Milner achieved yet another milestone in his storied Premier League career on Saturday.

Milner, whose career now stretches past his 39th birthday, committed to another season with Brighton by signing a one-year deal in May. The seasoned midfielder joined the Seagulls in 2023 after an eight-year stint at Liverpool, and made 20 appearances in his debut season at the Amex Stadium.

Under the guidance of his 22nd club-level manager, Fabian Hurzeler, Milner was named in the starting lineup for Saturday’s match against Everton. By taking the field in Brighton’s 3-0 victory at Goodison Park, Milner set a new Premier League record, becoming the first player to participate in 23 different Premier League seasons.

This feat moves Milner ahead of Ryan Giggs, who was previously tied with him at 22 seasons. With this achievement, Milner is also closing in on another record: the all-time Premier League appearance record, currently held by Gareth Barry at 653 games. Milner is just 19 appearances away from claiming that top spot.
