Only one England player in the team of the tournament. It’s not Bellingham

UEFA has announced its Team of the Tournament for Euro 2024, featuring a strong Spanish presence with six players making the cut, including standout performers like Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal. England’s Kyle Walker also secured a spot as the sole representative from the runners-up.

Walker, recognized for his consistent defensive prowess, was named the right-back in the prestigious lineup. Besides him, two French internationals and one player each from Germany and Switzerland completed the selection, showcasing the diversity of talent on display throughout the tournament.

From Spain, wide forwards Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal were highlighted, with Yamal also earning the title of Young Player of the Tournament. The Spanish contingent was further strengthened by the inclusion of left-back Marc Cucurella and midfielders Rodri, Dani Olmo, and Fabian Ruiz. Rodri, pivotal in Spain’s campaign, was awarded Player of the Tournament.

France’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan, whose heroics were vital in reaching the semi-finals, was named the top goalkeeper. His compatriot, defender William Saliba, joined him in the team. Switzerland’s Manuel Akanji was selected as a central defender, rounding out the backline with Saliba and Cucurella.

Germany’s Jamal Musiala was the lone representative from the host nation, reflecting his significant impact despite their quarter-final exit against Spain. His creative play and versatility earned him a deserved place among Europe’s elite.

The selection was made by UEFA’s technical observer team, a panel comprising 12 former players and coaches, including notable names like Rafael Benitez, Frank de Boer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and David Moyes. Their insights and expertise contributed to assembling a team that encapsulates the best performances of Euro 2024.
