VIDEO | Terrible scenes in the Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia

The start of the 2024 Copa America final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami was delayed due to chaotic and unsafe conditions, leaving thousands of fans stranded outside the venue. The match, featuring Argentina and Colombia, is now set to begin at 8:30 PM EDT.

In a statement, Copa America officials emphasized that only ticket holders would be allowed entry once the gates reopened. “We announce that people who do not have tickets will not be able to enter the stadium. Only those who have purchased tickets will be able to enter the stadium once the gates are reopened,” the statement read. The large crowds, including families with young children, faced significant challenges as they waited outside in the intense heat, creating a potentially hazardous situation.

Miami-Dade Police attributed the delays to disruptive behavior by some fans attempting to force their way into the stadium. “We have had several incidents prior to the gates opening at Hard Rock Stadium for the Copa America final game,” read a statement from the police department. “These incidents have been a result of the unruly behavior of fans trying to access the stadium.”

Authorities urged fans to remain patient and follow the guidelines set by police and stadium personnel. “We are asking everyone to be patient, and abide by the rules set by our officers and Hard Rock Stadium personnel.

We are actively working with Hard Rock Stadium to ensure a safe environment for all those attending. Unruly behavior will get you ejected and/or arrested,” the statement concluded. The commitment to maintaining order and safety was reiterated, highlighting a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive conduct.
