REVEALED. This is the reason why Nunez got in a fight with Colombian fans

A Copa America semi-final between Colombia and Uruguay was overshadowed by an ugly brawl involving fans and players, including Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez. The match, held in Charlotte, North Carolina, saw Uruguay fall to a 1-0 defeat, ending their tournament run. However, the post-match violence in the stands has become the main talking point, with several Uruguay players climbing into the stands to confront aggressive fans.

Nunez, along with teammates Ronald Araujo, Matias Vina, and Mathias Olivera, found themselves embroiled in the skirmish. Fans, primarily wearing Colombia jerseys, clashed with the players, leading to punches being thrown. Nunez, who attempted to defend himself and his teammates, was seen exchanging blows amidst the chaos. The situation at Bank of America Stadium escalated quickly, prompting police intervention after ten minutes of intense fighting.

The brawl prompted a swift response from CONMEBOL, the governing body of South American football. In a statement, they condemned the violence and emphasized football’s role in promoting unity and positive values. “CONMEBOL strongly condemns any act of violence that affects football. Our work is based on the conviction that football connects us and unites us through its positive values. There is no place for intolerance and violence on and off the field.”

AUF president Ignacio Alonso explained the players’ actions, noting they were defending vulnerable fans in the stands. “The players reacted instinctively to defend and protect the children, women, and families who were being assaulted. It was a natural reaction considering the circumstances.”

The incident remains under investigation, and it is unclear whether the players involved will face disciplinary action.
