In their UEFA Euro 2024 Round of 16 match, Georgia and Spain ended the first half tied at 1-1 in Cologne. The winner will face Germany in the quarter-finals next weekend.

Georgia took the lead with an unexpected own goal by Spain’s Robin Le Normand, who deflected Otar Kakabadze’s cross into his own net. Spain quickly responded in the 39th minute, when Rodri’s powerful strike from outside the box found the net.

The goal was reviewed for offside but was confirmed valid as Alvaro Morata did not interfere with play.

Spain dominated possession, holding the ball 73% of the time and creating numerous scoring opportunities with 16 shots compared to Georgia’s two. Despite their control, they struggled to break down Georgia’s resolute defense, leading to an intense second half.
