Liverpool ready to pay €85M for Premier League star in January

Liverpool are weighing a January move for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as cover for Mohamed Salah and to add fresh thrust on the right.

Crucially, Ghana didn’t qualify for AFCON, so Semenyo would be available while Salah captains Egypt—a calendar quirk that pushes him high on Arne Slot’s shortlist.

Competition is real. Manchester United and Tottenham tracked him in the summer, with Chelsea also linked. Reports indicate a release clause around £75m in the new deal he signed in July. Whether Liverpool structure payments or go straight to the clause could decide the timing.

On the pitch, the fit makes sense. Semenyo offers direct running, pressing, and end product from either wing, plus cover through the middle. His fast start this season explains why Liverpool view him as a player who can challenge Salah now and take meaningful minutes longer term.

Bournemouth will be tough sellers mid-season after rebuffing bids before. But Liverpool’s urgency, good relations after the Kerkez deal, and the lure of competing for major honours could move talks along.

If the numbers work, Semenyo looks tailored to keep Liverpool’s right side firing during AFCON—and to raise the bar when Salah returns.
