Wataru Endo has hinted at a potential Liverpool transfer while speaking to the Japanese media, sparking interest among fans. Recently, Liverpool has been linked with his compatriot Takefusa Kubo, with some reports suggesting that negotiations with Real Sociedad for the winger are nearing completion. However, other sources have contradicted these claims.
When asked which international colleague he would like to see at Liverpool, Endo responded, “Maybe Kubo. They’re looking for a replacement for Mo Salah, so that’s probably going to be a real area for Liverpool to strengthen in the future. If they think about who can replace him, I think it’ll be Kubo.”
The conflicting reports on Kubo make it hard to determine Liverpool’s actual level of interest and progress in pursuing the winger. Nonetheless, Endo’s comments suggest that Liverpool is planning for a future without Salah and that he would welcome Kubo as part of that vision.
Kubo, if seriously considered as a long-term successor to Salah, will need to improve his performance. Last season, he recorded seven goals and five assists in 41 games for Real Sociedad, according to Transfermarkt.
Whether Kubo can elevate his game in the upcoming season, either at his current club or potentially at Liverpool, remains to be seen. Endo’s remarks have certainly added fuel to the speculation, giving fans a glimpse into the possible transfer priorities of Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes.
